Columbia Sailing Club is proud to present our
2024 Women on the Water Programs!
CSC has a deep history of women’s sailing and it is WOW’s hope and dream that women will continue to enjoy their time on the water, increase their knowledge, and participate in new and different cruising and racing activities.
Women On Water (WOW) is designed to give women of all ages and from all walks of life the opportunity to experience sailing through a variety of educational and social activities. WOW aims to increase female participation in sailing related events, from clinics to cruising to racing.
This class is open to those who used to sail, are currently sailing, are trying to learn or have watched from ashore and always wanted to give it a try! Now is the time to build your sailing knowledge and be a part of empowering females to get on the water.
WoW – Summer 2024
WoW – Women on the Water at CSC
This class is run on four consecutive Monday nights over the course a month. Each class is two hours long from 6:30-8:30 and ends with an optional social gathering on the CSC front porch. The WOW course is led by female instructors and is taught in a two-person C420 sailboat.
*Once the class itself concludes at 8:30, please note that a CSC club member must be on site at all times and is responsible for securing the premises upon their departure.
Topics for each session include but are not limited to wind/weather, basic knots, parts of the boat, capsize recovery, how to rig, steering, and points of sail.
Please bring your own PFD (life-jacket) as they must be worn at all times on the water. If you are not able to bring a PFD, we do have limited supply of PFD’s to loan.

Payments and Refund/Withdrawal Policy:
Online payment is due and required at the time of online registration. The CSC Sailing Director is not able to process offline registrations, nor can they accept cash or check.
Please be sure of your schedule and availability when you register for a program. Our programs are staffed based on the allotted capacity and sell out weeks to months in advance. Last-minute withdrawals do not allow time for the available program spot to filled, thereby preventing someone else from enjoying the sailing program.
As such and in the interest of fair and equitable application of this policy, exceptions to the refund policy will not be made for unexpected scheduling conflicts, changes of plan, changes of heart, etc.
Refund availability and amount refunded or credited for any camp, class, clinic, session, program, etc. will strictly follow the policy below.
Weather Postponement/Rain-out Policy
4-Week Sessions:
Each session consists of four Monday evening classes, and the intention is to keep that schedule. However, if inclement weather causes the WoW instructors to cancel a session, the session will be rescheduled for the following day (Tuesday) at the same time (6:30pm-8:30pm).
If the make-up day is also canceled due to weather, the following Tuesday will be used as the make-up day. If classes are continuously rained out, every attempt will be made to complete four classes using the scheduled Monday classes and the available Tuesday make-up days.
If fewer than four classes have been offered by the end of the session, a pro rata refund will not be available, however CSC will make arrangements to offer the remaining classes due.
Keelboat Sailing:
Keelboat Sailing sessions postponed due to weather will be rescheduled to soonest available weekend. Every attempt will be made to provide the full value of the course to each sailor, but individual makeup days will not be available.
*Only WoW instructors or the CSC Sailing Director can cancel a class due to weather. We continuously watch the forecast, radar, and waterfront conditions to make a reasonable assessment of the weather and will contact each participant ASAP if a weather cancellation is necessary. Summer storms tend to be isolated, so it may be storming at CSC, but not in other parts of Columbia, and vice versa.
