CSC has a deep history of women’s sailing and it is WOW’s hope and dream that women will continue to enjoy their time on the water, increase their knowledge, and participate in new and different cruising and racing activities.
Women On Water (WOW) is designed to give women of all ages and from all walks of life the opportunity to experience sailing through a variety of educational and social activities. WOW aims to increase female participation in sailing related events, from clinics to cruising to racing.
This class is open to those who used to sail, are currently sailing, are trying to learn or have watched from ashore and always wanted to give it a try! Now is the time to build your sailing knowledge and be a part of empowering females to get on the water.
For the first time, we are offering a WoW – Keelboat Sailing course. Keelboats are larger sailboats that have a keel with righting ballast. This means they are stable and will not capsize except in the most extreme conditions. However, on a breezy day, sailors can still expect an exciting sail with a fair bit of heeling–the boat leaning to one side–and spray over the bow. So, sailors may still get wet, but, when sailed correctly, they don’t end up in the water like when sailing a dinghy.

Our Summer Sessions typically run on four consecutive Monday nights over the course of one month. Each class is two hours long from 6:30-8:30pm. The WOW Level 1 course is led by woman instructors and is taught in a two person 420 sailboat. The first session of each course will be held on land and covers the basic knowledge needed to maneuver a sailboat: wind/weather, basic knots, parts of the boat, how to rig, steering and points of sail. The following classes will be on the water. PFD’s must be worn at all times on the water.
